The traditional steel corrugated container roof is absent from open-top containers. Rather, they feature detachable bows and a weatherproof tarpaulin that can be fastened with ropes.
This greatly streamlines the loading and unloading procedure, which is typically carried out by crane from above. For easy cargo access, the door header (above the door) can also be removed or swung around.
For moving machinery, a 40-foot used shipping container open-top is perfect. The tarpaulin and bows, which add strength, must be shipped with the container.
You will typically need to use a flat rack container with no roof if the machinery is too tall.
